Schurman Family Farms has been growing certified organic produce since 2001. Now rooted in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, we are committed to providing fresh, high-quality food year-round. Our focus is on creating a sustainable food system that respects the environment, celebrates the quality of our produce, and supports the local community we proudly serve.
Our Journey
2001
Schurman Family Farm was founded in Kensington, PEI, with a focus on organic farming and a greenhouse business to diversify operations.
2008
The family ventured to Mexico and Nova Scotia, gaining expertise in organic production and greenhouse management.
2011
Returned to Kensington, introducing the brand Atlantic Grown Organics to the Maritimes.
Present
Now operating a 150,000 sq. ft. greenhouse, growing certified organic vegetables year-round.
Meet the Schurman Family
Marc Schurman
“Farming is in my blood. Watching a seed grow into something beautiful is one of life’s greatest joys.”
Marc grew up on the family farm, attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and returned to Kensington in 2011 to continue sustainable farming.
Krista Schurman
“Nature’s simplicity inspires me. The warmth of the greenhouse and vibrant plants make me feel alive.”
Krista grew up in Truro, NS, and shares Marc’s passion for farming and raising their children with strong values. Ben, Quinton, and Samantha are learning work ethics, life skills, and entrepreneurial values while helping on the farm.
What We Grow
Tomatoes
Over 2000 vibrant, certified organic tomato plants grow in our greenhouse, offering fresh, flavorful produce year-round.
English Cucumbers
Our 1400 cucumber plants ensure crisp, refreshing produce for our local community.
Other Produce
We grow a variety of organic vegetables, including peppers, eggplants, grape tomatoes, spinach, kale, lettuce, and Swiss chard.
Sustainability In Action
Pest Control
We use beneficial insects and healthy plants to maintain an organic ecosystem in our greenhouse.
Soil Health
We enrich our soil using organic fertilizers, peat moss, and compost with earthworm castings.
Eco-Friendly Heating
Our greenhouses are heated by burning GMO-free crop residues. The ash is recycled as organic fertilizer.
Where to Find Us
Atlantic Grown Organics is the label we use to sell Schurman Family Farm beef tomatoes, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, and peppers throughout Atlantic Canada.
You can find our products in Sobeys, Atlantic Superstore, Walmart, Farmers Markets and our Veggie Stand (open from mid April)
